IV therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification Course
for LVN 
 
 
Course description
    
This is a California BVNPT approved certification course for licensed vocational nurse who wish to perform blood withdrawal and start an IV therapy within the scope of their practice.
 
Due to recent regulatory changes by the BVNPT, all theory hours will be delivered through classroom setting. The Board will no longer allow homestudy or on-line classes
 
Class day includes successful venipunctures on fellow students.
 
 
 Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: 
 

  • Describe purposes for venipuncture.
  • Identify potential intravenous (IV) sites and sites to avoid.
  • Identify types of prepared IV solutions.
  • Identify correct type of tubing to use.
  • Determine types of tourniquets that may be used.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of fluid volume excess or fluid volume deficit.
  • Discuss unexpected outcomes related to a peripheral intravenous infusion and related interventions.
  • Describe steps for insertion of a peripheral IV device.
  • Troubleshoot intravenous infusions.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of complications from intravenous therapy.
  • Discontinue a peripheral IV device.
  • Identify reasons for discontinuing peripheral IV access.
  • Describe unexpected outcomes of discontinuing peripheral IV access and related interventions.

 
Participants may receive 30 CE units under BRN CE provider # 14783 with a course title of
"A Refresher course in IV Therapy: Indications and Preventing Complications"
 
Course fee:       
 
IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification course (IVBW) - $295.00
IV Therapy certification (IVC) only - $250.00
Blood Withdrawal certification (BWC)only- $125.00
 
  
A registration fee of $95.00 is required to reserve a seat for the class. Balance payable only in CASH on the first day of the class
