(Advance Cardiovascular Life Support)
AHA ACLS is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective BLS with ACLS interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation
Because the ACLS Provider course covers extensive material in a short time, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand.
Course Content
Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions,
use of a bag-mask device and use of an (AED)
• Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
• Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
• Airway management
• Related pharmacology
• Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
• Effective communication as a member and leader of a
resuscitation team
• Effective Resuscitation Team Dynamics
WHAT THIS COURSE DOES NOT COVER
The ACLS Provider course does not teach algorithms, ECG or Pharmacology information. Take the Basic ECG course to learn about algorithms
Precourse Requirements
You should prepare for the course by doing the following:
1. Complete the precourse checklist (found in your manual) and bring it to class with you
2. Review and understand the information in your ACLS Provider Manual. Pay particular attention to the 10 core cases in Part 4
3. Review and understand the information in the BLS for Healthcare and Pharmacology precourse assessment test on the ACLS student CD.
4. Print your scores for the precourse assessment test and briing them with you to class.
